ALEXANDRA RODRIGUES FINOTTI |

Biography: Professor Finotti holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Universidade Federal de Goiás (1995), a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (1997) and a Doctoral degree in Water Resources and Environmental Sanitation from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (2003). She is currently an associate professor at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina and has experience in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering in both the technological and environmental management fields. Regarding the technological area, professor Finotti develops research in water resources, especially groundwater contamination and monitoring, as well as in sanitation in the field of sanitary sewage systems and urban drainage. As for the environmental management area, the professor works with environmental risk assessment applied to underground contamination, life cycle analysis and the application of environmental impact assessment tools. |

ARMANDO BORGES DE CASTILHOS JUNIOR |

Biography:: Professor Castilhos Junior holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (1983) and a Doctoral degree in Urban and Industrial Solid Waste Management and Treatment from the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon, France (1988). He did postdoctoral research at the University of California, Davis’ Biomass Laboratory, USA (2012) and a research internship at the Université de Sherbrooke, Canada (2006). Professor Castilhos Junior coordinated the Southern Regional Network of the National Network of Training and Technological Extension in Basic Sanitation – ReCESA. He also coordinated the National Solid Waste Research Network of the FINEP/PROSAB Basic Sanitation Research Program (4 years), as well as international cooperation projects with France (CAPES/COFECUB) (4 years), and with the Republic of Cameroon (PROAFRICA/CNPq). He was Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (1994 – 1996), Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Environmental Engineering (2002 – 2004), Head and Deputy Head of the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (2010 – 2011) and Deputy Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Environmental Engineering (2013-2014) at UFSC. He is a faculty member of the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at UFSC since 1992 and a Full Professor since 2015. He is also Supervisor of the Solid Waste Research Laboratory – LARESO and has experience in the area of Sanitary Engineering, with emphasis on Solid, Domestic and Industrial Waste, working mainly in the following subjects: Management, Treatment and Valorization of Urban, Industrial and Agricultural Solid Waste. |

She is an Associate Professor in the Graduate Program in Environmental Engineering at UFSC and is the current Director of the Joinville Campus. Biography: Professor Franco holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering from the Universita degli Studi di Padova, Italy (1988) and a Doctoral degree in Chemical Science from Università Degli Studi Di Venezia, Italy (1992). He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at UFSC and also works as the Supervisor of the Maritime Hydraulics Laboratory. He has experience in Oceanography, with emphasis on Physical Oceanography and Ecology, working mainly on the following topics: coastal hydrodynamics, coastal ecosystems, statistical modeling, and numerical modeling. |

Biography: Professor Lapolli holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (1976), a Master’s degree in Production Engineering from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (1993) and a Doctoral degree in Hydraulic Engineering and Sanitation from Universidade de São Paulo (1998), with part of the program taken at Université de Montpellier II (Scien et Tech Du Languedoc), France, as a sandwich student (1997). Between 1980 and 1999, he worked as an engineer at Companhia Catarinense de Águas e Saneamento – CASAN and was a part-time professor at UFSC, teaching Environmental Sanitation courses in the Civil Engineering and Architecture Programs. Currently, he is a Full Professor at UFSC and a Researcher at CNPq since August 2003. Professor Lapolli participates in the executive board of the Brazilian Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering – Santa Catarina Section. In December 2008, he was elected as the Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Environmental Engineering at UFSC, acting as a member of the Graduate Council and the University Council until December 2012. From 2013 to 2015, he was Head of the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at UFSC. He has experience in the area of Sanitary Engineering, with emphasis on the Treatment of Water Supply and Wastewater, working mainly on the following topics: disinfection, stabilization ponds, sanitary sewage, membranes, and advanced treatment technologies focused on water treatment and reuse. |

Biography: Professor Recio is a Research Productivity Fellow at CNPq (PQ-Level 2), an Associate Professor at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) –Araranguá Campus and an Accredited Professor at the Graduate Program in Environmental Engineering at UFSC. She holds a Doctoral degree in Chemistry from the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain (1990) and has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Montpellier II, France (1991) and at The Higher Council for Scientific Research, Spain (2002). She has experience in the area of Chemistry, with emphasis on Environmental Chemistry, working mainly in the treatment of water for water supply and wastewater. She is Coordinator of several research projects. Between 1989 and 2012, she participated in 22 research projects and 6 university extension projects. Professor Rocio supervises graduate research and has published 32 articles in specialized journals, 6 book chapters and 59 papers in event proceedings. She has also translated 4 undergraduate-level chemistry books and is Scientific Editor of the Molecular and Supramolecular Bioinorganic Chemistry: Applications in Medical and Environmental Sciences book series published by the Nova Science Publishers, Inc., New York. Additionally, she is an Ad hoc Consultant of the Santa Catarina State Foundation for the Support of Research and Innovation (FAPESC) and Scientific Reviewer of the Química Nova and Environmental Engineering and Management journals. Currently, she is Research Coordinator of the Araranguá Campus and Member of the Research Council at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. |

MARIA ELISA MAGRI |

Biografia: Professor Magri holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (2006), a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering (2009) and a Doctoral degree in Environmental Engineering (2013) from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, with part of the Doctoral program taken at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences – SLU, Sweden, as a sandwich student. In addition, she conducted postdoctoral research in Biotechnology and Biosciences (2013-2014) and Environmental Engineering (2016). She has experience teaching on the undergraduate and graduate levels, working as an Associate Professor at Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA) and as a Professor at Sociedade Educacional de Santa Catarina (SOCIESC). She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at UFSC. Professor Magri develops research on basic and environmental sanitation, specifically addressing the following topics: sanitation focused on resource recovery – sewage separation; technologies for treatment, sanitation and utilization of human feces and urine, gray water, sewage sludge and swine manure, with a focus on the production of biofertilizers; microbiology applied to sanitation with the study of modeling and kinetics of inactivation of pathogenic microorganisms and quantitative evaluation of microbiological risk. |

MARIA ELIZA NAGEL HASSEMER |

Biography: Professor Hassemer holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sanitary Engineering (1983), a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering (2000) and a Doctoral degree in Environmental Engineering (2006) from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, with part of the Doctoral program taken at University of Minho (UMinho), Portugal, as a special student. She has also conducted postdoctoral research at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (2008 and 2012) and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at UFSC. Professor Hassemer has experience in the area of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering, with emphasis on Conventional and Advanced Techniques for the Treatment of Water, Domestic and Industrial Effluents, working mainly in the following subjects: disinfection, ozone, ultraviolet radiation, toxicity, oxidation, chlorine dioxide, textile effluent, and flocculation in a granular medium. She works in the areas of Public Health, Environmental Education, Recovery of Degraded Areas and Cleaner Production, and is one of the leaders of the Decentralized Sanitation Study Group – GESAD. She is also Outreach Coordinator of the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering, Deputy Coordinator of the Graduation Program in Environmental Engineering – PPGEA and Supervisor of the Integrated Environment Laboratory (LIMA) of the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering. |

MAURICIO LUIZ SENS |

Biography: Professor Sens holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sanitary Engineering from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (1982), a Diploma of Higher Studies and a Doctoral degree in Water Treatment from the Ecole Nationale Superiéure de Chimie de Rennes, Université de Rennes I, France (1991). Additionally, he did postdoctoral research on cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins removal at the University of Limoges, France (2007). He is an Associate Professor at UFSC since 1983 and a Full Professor since 1996. He is Supervisor of the Water Purification Research Laboratory (LAPOA) at UFSC, Coordinator of the Lagoa do Perí Water Treatment Research Laboratory (Partnership between UFSC and CASAN – Companhia Catarinense de Água e Saneamento) and leader of the UFSC water treatment research group at CNPq. Professor Sens teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on water supply treatment at UFSC. He has coordinated more than 45 research projects related to water supply treatment, most of them in technological development. He was also Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at UFSC for three terms; Coordinator of the Professional Master’s Program in Environmental Engineering at UFSC for two terms; Head of the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at UFSC for five terms. He also participated in the last three water treatment research networks – PROSAB- Theme 1 (Calls for Proposals 3, 4 and 5) and participates in the current Habitare/PROSAB network as UFSC coordinator. |

Biography: Professor Sezerino holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (1999), a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering (2002) and a Doctoral degree in Environmental Engineering (2006) from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), with part of the Doctoral program taken at the Technological University of Munich (TUM),/ Germany, as a sandwich student (2004). He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at UFSC. He has experience in the area of Pollution Control and Wastewater Treatment, with emphasis on decentralized sanitation using wetland systems, effluent segregation, and reuse). Professor Sezerino also works in the Planning field, focusing on Basic Sanitation Plans and River Basin Committees. He was Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at UFSC (2014 – 2016). Currently, he leads the Decentralized Sanitation Study Group – GESAD. |

Biography: Professor Belli Filho holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, a Master’s degree in Hydraulics and Sanitation from Universidade de São Paulo, and a Doctoral degree in Industrial and Environmental Chemistry from Université de Rennes I, France. He also did postdoctoral research at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal, Canada. Currently, he is a Full Professor at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, working as a permanent faculty member in the Undergraduate Program in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering and in the Graduate Program in Environmental Engineering (Doctoral and Master’s degrees) at UFSC. He is also Supervisor of the Liquid and Gaseous Effluents Laboratory, a research fellow at CNPq, an ad hoc consultant at CAPES and CNPQ and reviewer of national and international journal articles. Professor Belli Filho develops projects with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Company – EMBRAPA and the Research and Rural Extension Company of Santa Catarina – EPAGRI and has several projects financed or sponsored by CNPQ, CAPES, FAPESC, FINEP, SCGAS, FUNASA, CASAN, PETROBRAS, and the private sector. He has professional experience in the area of environmental sanitation, treatment of liquid and gaseous effluents, sustainability of swine farming, biogas, and odor management. He also coordinates projects focused on the dissemination of Social Technologies for Environmental Sanitation by integrating community empowerment actions. |

Biography: Professor Costa holds a Doctoral degree in Water Quality and Treatment at the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA), France (1989) and did postdoctoral Research at the Université Montpellier I, France (2000). Currently, she is a Full Professor at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. She is a faculty member of the Graduate Program in Environmental Engineering at UFSC, where she supervises doctoral and master’s researches. She worked as a full member of the CNPq Environmental Sciences Evaluation Committee and the CAPES Graduate Program (Engineering I) Evaluation Committee (2011-2014). She is author of several articles published in international and national journals and in scientific congresses proceedings and is currently coordinating four research projects. Professor da Costa works in the area of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering, with emphasis on the Treatment of Water Supply and Wastewater. Biography: Professor Mohedano holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences (2001), a Master’s degree in Aquaculture (2004) and a Doctoral degree in Environmental Engineering (2010) from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC -2010), where he has also conducted postdoctoral research (2010-2015). Currently, he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at UFSC, teaching courses in the areas of Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Sanitation, Environmental Management and Environmental Education. He develops research and outreach projects focused on the Environmental Management of Agribusiness (pig farming), with emphasis on environmental sanitation and sustainability. He studies natural systems for the treatment of effluents integrating nutrient recovery, biomass production and GHG reduction, following the principles of social technologies and circular economy. He is a member of the Pig Farming Sustainability Research Group (CNPq) and works on research and outreach projects on social technologies for water management. |

Biography: Professor Soares holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sanitary Engineering from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (1985), a Master’s degree in Waste Management and Treatment (1991) and a Doctoral degree in Waste Management and Treatment (1994) by the Institut National de Sciences Appliquées de Lyon, France.
